Emily received her BA in English Literature and Poetry Writing from Kenyon College. She is a graduate of a NOLS Wilderness Semester in Patagonia, and has completed multiple courses with the NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute. In 2015, Emily worked as a writer and curator for a global education festival, South by Southwest EDU, in Austin, Texas. She has led extended backpacking trips with Overland Summers in the backcountry of Maine and Alaska, and worked as a conservation sawyer with Southwest Conservation Corps on remote conservation projects in Utah and Colorado. In 2016 she joined the High Mountain Institute (HMI) in Leadville, CO, as an English teaching Apprentice. She went on to work as the Proctoring Faculty for HMI Gap, a 4-month wilderness and environmental studies Gap year program traveling through the backcountry of Colorado, Utah, and Chilean Patagonia. Originally from rural New England, she enjoys trail running, biking, and reading next to the wood stove. Her poetry has been published in several journals, online and in print.
