Our 3rd Annual Empty Bowls: A Night of Community (and a Lot of Soup!)

On February 19th, Watershed School hosted our third annual Boulder Empty Bowls Fundraiser, and once again, our community showed up in the most heartwarming way. For our sold-out event, nearly 150 guests filled our space for an evening dedicated to one shared purpose: supporting our neighbors facing food insecurity.

Big Wins & Bright Moments at Watershed

We’ve had a lot of momentum building on campus lately! From expanded spaces to inspiring exhibitions, award-winning artwork, and middle school rockets soaring high, our students have been really showing up with creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

What I Get From Watershed

When students talk about what they get from Watershed, they talk about real-world experiences that matter — and a supportive culture that helps them grow into who they are. Yes, our students are challenged academically, but what they truly walk away with is something deeper: a sense of identity, independence, purpose, and belonging. And it’s within that sense of belonging that the power of community comes to life.

Students Ride Toward a More Sustainable and Just Food System

Students in the Power of Bicycles course turned their learning into action. They worked together to create social media campaigns to raise awareness about food waste and food insecurity in Boulder, while highlighting the role that the Boulder Food Rescue can play in solving these problems.

Ceramics Through the Ages & the Southwest Kiln Conference

The essential question in this class, “What can art teach us about the past?” drove students to explore firsthand how pottery was a crucial component of ancient Puebloan life. Students were offered glimpses into the entire pottery-making process, from gathering raw earth material to participating in ancient trench-firing demonstrations.

Student Perspectives on the World's Great Challenges

In a culture where we hear so much about the selfishness of adolescents, I feel lucky to be at a school where young people truly care about challenges in the world around them -- and where educators support students to think deeply, practice compassion, and voice their truths.

On the Election and our Community Values

As I write today, we still do not know the outcome of this week’s presidential election. We do know that it was the highest turnout in perhaps a century — good news for our democracy. We also know that there are some deep divisions in our country, and one of the great challenges ahead is to forge common understandings — of each other, of our hopes for the future.
