Cindy Sykes

Upper School Humanities Educator

Cindy grew up in Southern New Jersey where she earned her BA in English before traveling to Peru to become certified as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. Inspired by the teaching practicum, homestay, and adventurous exploration of Peru’s diverse landscapes and archeological sites, Cindy was determined to pursue a career in education with foundations in travel, culture, and outdoor experiences. So, she returned to New Jersey and Rowan University to complete her MST in Secondary Language, Literature, and Sociocultural Education; and, over the summers, became certified as a Leave No Trace Master Educator, Wilderness First Responder, and yoga instructor.

Cindy spent two years teaching in New Jersey before making the move to Longmont, Colorado where she continued working as a high school ELA teacher and yoga instructor. Cindy then also began working in outdoor education in Colorado: guiding hiking tours, ski instructing, leading backpacking trips, and taking way too many pictures.

While Cindy loves art, photography, live music, and literature, she also spends ample time camping, paddleboarding, and hiking. She enjoys planning adventurous vacations with very little downtime, playing with her dog and toddler, and convincing her partner that “strenuous” hikes aren’t all that bad.
