Upper School Humanities Educator
Jonathan attended Pomona College, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the University of Colorado Denver, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, his teaching certification, and a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology.
At Pomona College, he played collegiate basketball under Gregg Popovich, who would later become the Hall of Fame coach of the San Antonio Spurs.
Over a 27-year career in public education, he taught a wide range of English courses and served as an instructional coach and district coordinator for secondary literacy in Boulder Valley School District. He is also a National Board Certified Teacher and has worked extensively with educators at the district, state, and national levels to support curriculum design, assessment, and professional learning.
Before joining Watershed, Jonathan taught at Boulder High School, where he also advised the student newspaper and developed programs centered on student voice, inquiry, and authentic work. His teaching emphasizes shared intellectual exploration, interdisciplinary thinking, and the use of writing as a tool for both analysis and discovery.
Jonathan lives in the Boulder area with his wife, Heather. Outside of the classroom, he is often working on landscape and pond design projects, reading, or exploring creative work through drawing and writing.
