Pete holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Spanish from The University of Wisconsin- Madison. Before joining Watershed, Pete was the Department Head and Spanish Teacher at Montera Middle School in Oakland, CA, was the interim program director of the river program at Environmental Traveling Companions, and taught Spanish and World Course at Avenues: The World School in NYC. Pete has also led over ten international courses for both middle and high school students in South and Central America and Europe.

Pete was born and raised in St. Paul, MN. He now lives in Boulder with his partner, Michael, and their children Téa and Émile. Pete loves spending time on the water, preferably canoeing in the Boundary Waters, whitewater rafting, or snorkeling. When he’s not spending time outdoors, Pete loves to create crossword puzzles (with varying levels of success!) or read. Some of his favorite genres include sci-fi, fantasy or graphic novels as well as history or nonfiction. Pete has extensive travel experience and has explored Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Belize, Italy, Spain, and Canada.
