Charlene is a native Southern Californian who spent all but two years of her life in the San Gabriel Valley of the LA basin. She spent nearly twenty-five years raising her three children who are all now adults. She was actively involved in her kids schooling which ranged from homeschool, private, and public education systems so she understands the unique qualities that small independent schools can offer families and students. From 2006-2008, Charlene had the opportunity to live abroad with her family in Kyrgyzstan, where she studied the Russian language and spent time learning from her Kyrgyz, Uzbek, and Russian neighbors about their cultures.
Charlene comes with a depth and breadth of administrative experience in the nonprofit, corporate and education sectors. She is most proud of the work that she did from 2014-2019 at which time she founded and opened a residential program in Los Angeles County for adult survivors of human trafficking. Before relocating to the Front Range of CO to live near her family, Charlene has most recently served as the Administrative Coordinator at Neighborhood Homework House, a nonprofit serving the immigrant community in Azusa, CA.
Relationships are one of the highest priorities in Charlene’s life and she takes pride in the way she pursues, cares for, and loves her people. She is looking forward to bringing that passion to the students, families, and staff within the Watershed community. Her most favorite people are her children and grandchildren who have all relocated to the Front Range prior to her arrival. She is so grateful to be living near them again! She has a passion for traveling, exploring new places, mental health and wellness, gardening, and since 2020 also works as a private running coach with RunToTheFinish based in Superior, CO. Fun fact!...Charlene is a CODA who grew up in a household with two deaf parents and was actively immersed in the deaf community her whole life!
