A message from Tracy Halgren, P’19, ‘23 and Watershed’s new Interim Head of School:
Dear Watershed Community,
I'm genuinely energized as we head into this new school year, not because I can point to one specific thing, but because of what's underneath it all: a community driven by curiosity and grounded in the world, ready to explore, and confident that our students are capable of remarkable things right now, not someday. That's the spirit I want us to carry into August, and it's the spirit I hope you feel in every note, every event, and every conversation this year.
This community isn't new to me, I've spent the past three years as Director of Operations here, and before that, as a Watershed parent to my two boys. Stepping into the role of Interim Head of School gives me a different vantage point, and I want to make the most of it: spending time with families, meeting with students, and listening even more closely to all of you this year. I'm honored to lead this community, and I can't wait for what's ahead.
There's real momentum on campus this summer. We're investing in the people and spaces that make a Watershed education what it is: expanding our program with a dedicated learning specialist, deepening what we offer in theatre and music, and improving the acoustics in Bay A and our other gathering spaces. The expansion of Bay C, our future home for community, play, and connection, continues to take shape. We'll share more as these plans develop, for now, know that they're moving, and that they reflect a school investing in itself.
None of this matters without the people who bring it to life. Our educators show up every day ready to spark a question, follow a student's curiosity somewhere unexpected, and turn a creek, a canyon, or a classroom into a place where real learning happens. Our leadership team brings the same spirit– collaborative, steady, and deeply committed to this school and to each other. I've rarely seen a group this dedicated, and it shapes everything about what's possible this year.
At Watershed, we believe people learn best by doing, exploring, and engaging with the world and each other. That belief has always been at the center of this school, and it's the one I keep coming back to as I think about the year ahead. What makes Watershed, Watershed? And what do we want to build on, together, this year? Those are the questions I'm most looking forward to exploring with all of you. I'll be hosting listening sessions with parents throughout the Fall, and I look forward to hearing from you as we build this relationship and move our school forward together.
Thank you for trusting me with this role. I can't wait to see what we build together this year.
Warmly,
Tracy Halgren
Interim Head of School
